Programme

Six stages, in this order

Each week ends with an assessment on Friday morning. Each module is validated by a certificate of competence before moving on.

  1. 1 week

    Induction

Welcome, safety rules and a safety quiz before the first arc strike, discovering the workshop, first beads with stick electrodes.

  2. 7 weeks

    Module 1 · Flat-position welding

Stick welding in single and multiple passes, then TIG on thin and thick sections.

  3. 3 weeks

    Module 2 · Fitting a steel assembly

Drawing, work sequence, marking out, cutting, fitting and welding a complete assembly; one week of MAG introduction.

  4. 9 weeks

    Module 3 · All-position welding

Stick welding vertical up, horizontal and overhead, then on pipe; TIG in position and on stainless steel; TIG root with stick fill.

  5. 3 weeks

    Work placement

Real work with a tutor, a visit from the trainer and a review at the end.

  6. 1 week

    Final assessment

Practical and written tests, a work simulation and a final interview with a panel.

Validation

Three certificates of competence

  • Fit and weld steel work in the flat position (stick and TIG)
  • Fit the parts of a steel assembly
  • Weld steel work in all positions (stick and TIG)

The three modules lead to the validation of the industrial welder-fabricator skills. The panel decides on the basis of the professional file, the final tests, the work simulation and the final interview.

Welder qualifications to ISO 9606-1 are planned with an independent inspection body. Details will be confirmed at opening.
